So here comes the last stop of Vietnam (wah 😭)! As I began writing this as I’d just finished travelling Cambodia & Thailand too and I have to say Vietnam was 100% my favourite place. There’s just something about it, it’s super special!
Things to do
Now Ho Chi Minh is like Hanoi on steroids if that’s even possible. It is nuts. I thought the traffic was cray in Hanoi but it’s abbbbsolutely mental here, just don’t get run over that’s all the advice I can offer you here 😅
HCM is just another city, packed full of tourists, restaurants, bars etc so all we really did was go out to eat & for drinks lols. Out out wise, we went to a couple of bars which were right near our hostel but if you’re staying in Zone 1 of HCM there’s bars absolutely everywhere so you won’t have any trouble finding one, you can bar hop till you see one you fancy! We played drinking games in our hostel bar and then went on a hunt for karaoke so Aine could get her Lionel Richie on, but then we couldn’t find one so took over an empty bar & got the staff to let us take control of the music = dancing on tables & our very own karaoke bar 🙌🏽😂
Another thing I really recommend is the night food market. It’s really easy to find from zone 1, and got so much choice of the best Vietnamese food you’ll not know what to have! Obvs I went for my last ever Ban Mih 😭 there’s also a little souvenir market near it where you can find decent little gifts!
I know a lot of people actually go to the tunnels from here to experience what it was like to fit into those teeny tiny tunnels that were made during the war and I would have loved to go but unfortunately didn’t have the time – but definitely go if you can! It’s from here I got a bus over the border to Cambodia! I recommend getting the Giant Ibis Company bus if you wanna do this. You can get your tickets online and they do everything (visa wise) for you so it’s very simple.
Where to stay
I stayed at The Hideout Hostel. Quite small but social! Air conned rooms, a cool little bar next door, free brekky & the staff are super helpful and will help book buses etc for wherever you wanna go next. I’d recommend staying here ☺️
For gym I actually went in Zone 12 when I was staying a little bit out of the city for a night. It’s called Rocky’s Fitness Centre. Luckily I got to have the session for free which was a gem 💎 it was the first actual normal looking gym I’d come across since Hanoi really! It has two levels with all the essentials, but it had a squat rack and I was buzzing off that 😂👌🏽all their staff are so nice as well, one in particular was so jokes – he would shout motivational stuff at me in between every set in the most military way possible.. maybe for some people that works? I just laughed awkwardly lolsss but it was a good workout! I’m pretty sure gyms are really easy to find in HCM so if you’re staying in the centre you won’t have any issues at all!
Overall it wasn’t my favourite place in Vietnam, it’s a very busy City with lots of congestion and madness whereas I preferred the chilled areas like Dalat 💛 but I met some amazing people, had a sick night out, and had a decent workout so all in all it was a good way to finish Vietnam 🇻🇳👊🏽
